We are moving to a new building and need to move the M2250 consoles. Currently these consoles are connected each using a 25 pair cable and they are located in the room next to the Meridian system. Can we use a different cable (Cat 5e for example) to connect in the new building. If so, what is needed? How far can these consoles be from the PBX? Please advise.

the book says 25 pair only, nortel loves to do stupid pet tricks i guess. i have ran them 600+ feet on cat 5 with one power pair. you can also just send the 2 tn's on the iw and use a local transformer

It just works with 4 wires(2 TNs). Attach the wires 2-14 and 3-15 pins on the 25 pin connector. it will work

the power side is needed if your distance is far enough that the display is to dim to read. the power is just for lamp voltage

Refer to NTP 553-3001-367, Telephones and Consoles, description, installation and operation. It will give you the correct pinouts. I agree with John but would use 2 pwr tns, to be on the safe side. Uses prs 1 and 2 for 1st and 2nd TN's and the pwr is on pr 7 (+ or tip) and pr 8 (- or ring) if you have a pwr fail unit may need to connect pr 11. 1side to GND and the other to the pwr fail unit.

i use at least one pair for power unless the distance get very long. to answer the original post, a 25 pair cable is insane
