Moving Computers between OUs and GPOs

I have 2 different OUs with GPOs applied to them

Each OU has XP SP2 being installed as a GPO.

Finace OU has SP2 being installed from \\server1\sp2

Accounting OU has SP2 being installed from \\server2\sp2


My question...

If, after the computer accounts have been updated to SP2 via their respective OU, and I moved one computer account from the Finance OU to the Accounting OU....would SP2 be re-installed upon GPO refresh?

More than likely, yes. This is typically the reason you don't deploy software using GPO's.

I believe it would try and install it again as PSC has stated. It should stop once it figures out that it is already installed though. This might be a good place to try out WMI filters so that SP2 is only applied to computers that are SP1 or lower.

I have not tried WMI filters before but it should be pretty straight forward.

You may also want to consider trying out the new WSUS from MS. It makes patch managment much easier.
