Movie Maker Freezes

I have an old VHS tape I got converted into a large (14GB) mpeg2 file.

I want to strip out some specific episodes from that file and make a separate movie disk of just that.

I can open the file in Movie Maker and build a timeline of the clips I want. As soon as I hit play on the strip, or try to build a file, Movie Maker just freezes. I've left it for hours, and nothing happens.

Task manager has two Movie Maker tasks listed as "Not Responding".

I have a reasonable high spec machine running XP Pro with 2GB of memory.

I didn't think Window Movie Maker natively supported mpg files.
