Movie clip with dynamic text

Oops - setting the variable is NOT done from the main timeline. Rather it is done from a different movie clip. In other words, I would like to set the variable value in one movie clip, and have the dynamic text box in a different movie clip reflect that immediately.

Setting the variable from a button in one movie clip...
on(release){
_level0.my_var = "Oldnewbie";
}
In the other movie clip, simply use _level0.my_var in the textfield's VAR box.
