Moved Sharepoint to SQL Server, uninstalled MSDE - No sharepoint

Hi

We moved our Sharepoint DB to SQL Server a year ago.

Reciently we have been lacking space on our system drive so decided to uninstall the MSDE instance for sharepoint believing that the SQL Server instance would run the sharepoint services. We were wrong!

We are now getting the error: Unable to connect to database. Check database connection information and make sure the database server is running...... When accessing sharepoint!

We also got an email from the server:
MSSQL$Sharepoint service is Stopped.

This service is required as the backend for your SharePoint based Intranet. If this service stops, users on your network will not be able to access your SharePoint based intranet site.

For more information about this event, see the event logs on the server computer. You can restart this service by using the View Services task in the Server Management Monitoring and Reporting taskpad.

You can disable this alert by using the Change Alert Notifications task.

Any advice on getting sharepoint online would be very appreciated.

I literally just did a MSDE to SQL2005 Sharepoint migration and i have the MSSQL$Sharepoint service stopped and disabled on the client's server with no difficulties. I would have to think that the content databases and such were not properly attached prior to the removal of the MSSQL$Sharepoint service. See the link below... it is really just an article on the actual migration, but it may be able to give you a starting point in which you can reattach your database(s). Good Luck!
