Hi,

I have a NT4.0 domain. There is one WINS/DHCP server in this domain. The problem is this server is too old and some times it gives us trouble. I would like to replace it with a new box, how do I set this up? I can't find instruction on Microsoft site. Please help!

Thanks!

To move WINS,
Do your servers have stattic addresses? I will presume yes.
You can have two WINS servers and DHCP scopes...another story.
WINS works better when the server isn't a logging server (domain controller) I presume you are moving WINS & DHCP together.
build your new WINS server as a bdc server enable WINS and DHCP.
Plan the swap for a saturday.
On the friday delete all DHCP leases. Make sure that by the end of the day all leases have been deleted. Deactivate your scope.
Swap IP addresses from your old to the new server. Copy your DHCP scope to the new server. ( saves having to change all your static addresses ) Enable your scope on the new server. You will have to re-boot all of your servers. ( Check the WINS database for your server id's )Test a few workstations "IPCONFIG /ALL" job done..Monday failures can be resolved by ipconfig / release...renew
