I have around 1000 users and I want to move their home dirs from one disk to another.
I just finished testing "Homes v3.02" which was very good for creating users new dirs on the new disk and so on but I still have a question:

I have been experimenting with a test-user and when I finished creating the new home dir I want to move the contents from this users old dir to the new one. I just used windows explorer and copied the files between them, but when I checked the space restrictions on that users home-dir it hadn´t recorded that I had transfered the old files to the home dir, the user still had a all space left.

How can I get around this ? To make novell record the amount of data I copy to the users new home-dir and take that in to account on the space restriction ?

use ncopy or netware copy
never use these nasty ms things

also use a trustbar

Do I run ncopy from a workstation of the server ? Is there a gui for it ?

of the server" = "or the server

Right click on the directory in Windows and you get the NetWare Copy option

Thanks TheLad !! ;))

Has anyone successfully move a users home dir with Homes v3.02 ? If so, could you please explain how you did it.

never used it

what backup software are you using
arcserve can do this with the copy command
not sure iof backup exec can do it

but an ncopy certainly will - i always like to have a trustbar as will so you can just refresh the rights in case any are lost

I´m using arcserve, I will have to look into that.
And I will also look into trustbar.

Using ncopy, will I be able to copy the files if the home dirs are on different servers ?

more possibilities ! ;)
I just looked up Consolidation Utility on the web and I don´t see the difference between Netware Copy and the Consolidation Utility, they can both do the same thing, right ?

NetWare copy is terrible for something like this. Don't use it.

Consolidation Utility will do:

-stream data
-attributes
-inheritance filters
-ownership
-trustees
-size restrictions

Plus you can setup a project before you actually move any data, and you can specify the exact location of where everything goes. For example, if you had two folders called USERS and HOME, and you wanted to consolidate them into one folder on a new drive called HOME, just drag and drop them both there and it will handle everything.

Very cool and easy to use. The thing I'm not sure about is whether it will update the Home Dir location in NDS. I doubt it.

Homes v3.02 will update the home dir location in NDS så I have that covered..
But I can´t find consolidation utility... I have searched novell.com but haven´t found it. :(

Go to DOWNLOAD.NOVELL.COM, change the radio button to "KEYWORD", put in "CONSOLIDATION".. then search.

It will bring it up and you can download version 2.6 from there.
