Move user folders to another server?

We are soon to remove some of our old servers and replace them with new equipment, these servers contain alot of shared work and user folders approx 200Gb. I will be able to run these servers side by side on the network so XCOPY is an option.

What suggestions would you guys have? I was thinking about XCOPY and moving the data in managable chunks but someone suggested redirecting a backup to the new server.

Any tips?

Thanks.

I usually do this kind of thing via an ARCserve copy job and then use Hyena to copy the shares + permissions. I also use Hyena to copy local groups over if they've been used for permissions. Last time I did this though the ARCserve job didn't preserve the permissions so I ended up doing an XCOPY just to transfer the permissions over. Next time I'll probably just use XCOPY to move the data.

Hmmm I’m leaning towards XCOPY myself as it's free and it seems to work very well albeit a bit slow.

Thanks guys.
