MOVE ALOHA TO A NEW SERVER

I have aloha 5.2.6.76 runing windows 2000 pro. I want to move my hard drive to a new server. The old server is pentium III and the new one has pentium 4. I mirrored the drive and tried repair from windows install disk it did not work. What are my options?

Options regarding Aloha or your hard drive? Easy way - Get the O/S installed and running 1st. Reintall Aloha on new hard drive using the CD and copy NEWDATA, DATA, BMP, etc...to the new system. More than this is needed to get running, but it's a start.

Can you list all that is needed. I do not have the install disk (I never got one and my system was upgraded to run DSL)or is there any backup I can do on old machine and restore on the new one?

You could try copying over everything in the Aloha directory to the new machine. Make sure it is the same hard drive letter, path, etc. You will need to register services and certain files. Also need to share drive as BOOTDRV with full permissions. See if there is a file called Register_Iber_XXX.bat in the root of the drive, it's a premade batch file to register the right files. It will make your process easier if you have it, if not you have some work to do. Even after all this I can't guarantee it will work. I would really try an get an installtion CD.

I will try to get an install CD. Then I follow these steps. Let me know if I asumed them correctly.

Install the aloha CD.
Copy all contents of old Aloha folder to new Aloha folder.
Run Register_Iber.XXX.

And I am done.

Install the Aloha CD on the new PC, with services.
Using the number of terminals correctly, etc.
Copy from the old HDD only these folders:
All Dated Subs (for your history)
BMP
NEWDATA
PROFILES

into the new Aloha Directory on the New PC.

Run the database upgrade utility (\aloha\bin\dbconfig.exe)

Refresh data.

Now you also need to make sure that your environment variables are the same as they were on the old PC.
Especially:
NUMTERMS
SERVER
IBERROOT
IBERDIR
TERMSTR

They should also match the variables that each terminal is using in their IBERCFG.BAT files.

The server should also use the same Computer Name as the old Computer. This can involve some tricks if you are copying the files from the old PC over a network. (not recommended for a noob.)

Also, blok's suggestions:
Make sure it is the same hard drive letter, path, etc. You will need to register services and certain files. Also need to share drive as BOOTDRV with full permissions.
But you don't need to register dll's again, because the CD load will do that.

Also,
We are assuming that you are:
A) NOT using aloha backoffice products
B) Using the CD of the EXACT same version of Aloha that is loaded on the old PC.
C) NOT Using any enterprise, or CDM products.
D) that this is a straightforward, simple POS system, with no add-ons.
E) That you are prepared to get help from your local support provider if this doesn't work, because you do not have experience doing this. Or at least you are able to re-install the old pc quickly and easily.

I have gift cards from aloha and a backup service from my dealer that backs up my data every night. Should I worry about those also?

I pluged in my old HD whitch had windows NT on it (this is before I upgraded to windows 2000)and it had no problems with the new hardware. I can upgrade again on the new computer and update the 2000 to service pack 4. the problem is this drive stops at December 2005. whitch files do I need to transfer to it so it will be uptodate.
