MouseOver To Show Larger Floating Image

I have this effect applied before to a few websites. Basically you have a small thumbnail of the image but when the user mouseover the image a larger preview of the image is shown floating above the smaller thumbnail. No pop up window is used.

Is this a javascript effect or something else. Anyone know where they have seen this effect and where I could see the source to help me build mine.

If you already have (or have seen?) the effect on other websites, can you not just copy the code from them?
