i cant figure out how to stop my pointer from randomly moving to the screens edge by itself

Is this an optical mouse?

If yes, an optical mouse does not work well with mousepads that have pictures or words on it, or translucent or transparent surfaces. Test by using mouse on plain white paper.

If no, then attach a different mouse to your computer, to see if the problem is with the mouse or the mouse port.

Help! I've fallen and I can't reach my beer.

Is this a wireless mouse?

If so, then check the battery, resync with the sending unit, relocate for better communications, check for interference with other wireless devices.

Does the pointer always move to the same corner? Is the mouse exposed to heat (sunlight)?

If your computer has remote control program installed, such as VNC host service maybe someone has hacked your password and is accessing it. The cursor will move to the upper right when they go there to close the window.

Give it a gentle "whack" if it is only a very random and very slow sliding of the mouse cursor to wards the screen edge. See if that stops the movement?

If you have a touchpad, a PS/2 little joystick thingy, and have added an external mouse:
If this worked find for a while, you have a touchpad, and a mouse joystick thingy, replace the sensor pad for the joystick thingy.

For Dell laptops this replacement is about $US 8.00, and takes about five minutes to do. (Do not order the part from Dell. Google: Dell replacement parts)
