Where do I begin to find out why my mouse hangs up. It does it on a random basis.

Check the obvious first, like cleaning the rollers the ball turns.

Then make sure that the computer is not just busy doing something at the moment the mouse hangs, so what you are experiencing is your PC ignoring you (sorta), not a hardware problem, just a momentary lack of resources.

See if there is harddrive activity during these episodes. Do you run something in the background like Napster, or even Microsofts' FindFast, or are you on a network and someone else is accessing your PC ? Any of these can cause short periods of rigor mousis.

Hope it helps

Ray

Had a similar problem, I got rid of Microsoft Fast find and had no problems since

If it is microsoft mouse then I had the same problem you have to cut some of the plastic off a the end where you plug it in

Mouse hangups are troublesome in WINDOWS since any disconnection causes it to be lost until reboot. The suggestion to make sure the connector is fully inserted is good. If it's not a physical or mechanical problem tho, then the quickest fix is to reload mouse driver or a different driver. That usually fixes it. If it continues, check with support of the company that built it. Sometimes a keyboard incompat with the mouse will cause this problem. Be well, do good work and keep in touch.
