I tried to install external modem on my laptop but now mouse is frozen and I have to access my laptop through shortcut keys. Any tips how can I defrost my mouse:).

Thanks

Saqi

I did not try toconnect an external mouse and I wouldn't like to use external mouse.

Modems and mice are notorious for wanting to use the same IRQs. If an IRQ conflict develops neither device will work. Check your Device Manager (Start | Settings | Control Panel | System) and see if there are any yellow exclaimation points in the list of devices, particularly over the mouse section.

True, but if you get control back then the problem has something to with your mouse setup (probably) than with the modem. I would disconnect your modem and confirm that your laptop mouse controller works as it previously did. Then reconnect the modem and see if the mouse "freezes" again. If it does, make sure your mouse driver is up to date (unlikely to be the problem, but cover all the bases). Then check if the system reports any conflicts (where to check depends on your OS. In 2000, go to Start/Programs/Administrative Tools/Computer Management/System Information/Hardware Resources/Conflicts. See what happens...
