I have a W95 OS and a COM mouse attached. The mouse worked just fine until yesterday when the 95 said "Windows not detected a mouse attached to the system..." (right when it loads the desktop). It also appears in Device Manager a ps2 mouse with conflict. I removed it and added (in Control Panel) a new hardware, a Standard serial mouse. Rebooted and still no mouse move. (the pointer appears but it's frozen). Entered also the system.ini and removed the mouse line. Still no effect.
Dunno what to do. (even after reinstalled w95)...
Shoud i give up?

Personally if I had reinstalled the operating system I would try another mouse, then look into the possibility that the controller on the MB had died - but not just yet.

You said it appeared as a conflict on the PS2 mouse, did it list what it was conflicting with? was it definately a serial mouse or was it a PS2 mouse ?

it is a serial mouse and it works in NC with a mouse.com program (on irq 4).

You can try booting into safe mode and removing all references to the mouse in the device manager. Then, power down, don't do a soft reboot. Restart. That may help.
