I have recently installed a promise serial ATA raid card to run a 200gb hard drive as my mother board can not take one that large and i seem to be having trouble running music smothly. Also the mouse keeps sticking too. Its like the pc keeps freezing up and then releasing after a few seconds. Can anyone sugest what may be causing my problem?

Also there is a beta bios version to allow the motherboard to read large hard drives. Do you think i should install that and hope its ok??

What Mother board and Bios do you have? Also maybe try looking at your performace settings. Right Click my computer, go to properties and then under advanced you will find the performace settings.

To get further information about any errors look in your Event viewer.

Look in the System or Application folder. You can get to the Event Viewer via right click My Computer icon and select Manage.

Any errors logged in the Event Viewer can be expanded by double clicking on the error line.

Take any event error I.D. number and search for it on these sites.

make sure u have service pack and updates for windows it does make a difference. check for driver updates as well.
With the updates ive notices pc's are twice the speed and are a hell of a lot more stable. i use a promise ide card running 40gb(ata133)on ide card ,80gb(ata133) on ide card and an old 10gb(ata33 or 66)on main board ide with no problems now. if you use the wrong ide cable on the hard drives eg 33, 66 and 100 that can cause problems. are u running you cd rom(s) off the ide card if so try running them off the main board ide's. They were the only problems i found with running the ide card.

Thanks for all your replies. I have not sorted the problem and all it boiled down to was the position of the cards on the mopther board. Moved the Bios card up, moved the sound card down and job done.
Thanks Again.
