Hi all,

I wanted to ask u a question in regards to exchange server as i have been having some problem. i basically installed a new larger SCSI drive on the server and cloned the image from the older drive and increased the partitions on the new hard drive. here are the details:

1- Original drive 9 Gb -> two partitions
C: System (5Gb)
F: mailboxes, exchange dbs (4Gb )

2- I clonned with ghost the new drive 72Gb in the following way:
C: System 33Gb
F: mailboxes, 36Gb

3- When I boot with the new hard drive, exchange is unable to mount the databases in F: inspite of being cloned exactly the same way as the "old" drive. I also tried using same SCSI ID for both hard disks. It did not change anything as the problem persisted.

4- If I boot with both hard disks ( new and old ), using old as booting system but the mailboxes in the new drive, old system is able to mount as well. However, new system is unable to mount any. My conclusion is that the problem is in the new C:, some difference (due to being larger) is causing the prob.

5- This is Exchange 2000, with Service Pack 3 and hotfix for a problem mounting that I found in internet. So, server is up to date.... Also I have ran "eseutil" and repared the Dbs (both are ok)

6- Error message I get is:
"An internal processing error has occured. Try restarting the Exchange System Manager or the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service, or both.
ID no: c1041724
Exchange System Manager"

-------------------------------
-What are the possible causes of this problem?
-May a restoration of a backup help?
-If anyone has done this before, What are the EXACT STEPS you DO? I may have missed something, and clonning again may be the best option.

Any ideas, suggestions would be of tremedous help as I am a bit stuck. Thank you very much for assistance!

In your old configuration where were the log files, streaming database, and exchange database?

Also... your new c drive shouln't exceed 8GB. If you happen to defrag your c drive and ntoskrnl.exe is moved beyond the 8GB boundry, you may get a boot failure.

I've used Ghost before and have had no problems. I suggest that you disable the Exchange services before running your ghost. That way, you can bring up the server post-ghost and reset all the drive letters if necessary. Make sure that if you leave the old drives installed, that you delete the drive letters associated with those drives.
