Hi,
I upgraded to device update 3 on BAB11 and today when I changed the magazines I did "dismount mag.", it was OK, but when I did "Mount magaz.", I IMMEDIATELLY got "Magazine was mounted succesfully". He did nothing but only showed the barcodes from the new tapes that got from the libraries barcode reader. In activity log, there is nothing about succesfully inventoried tapes :-(( We'we got library HP MSL5026 and Compaq TL891. After that, I did at least inventory "by hand" - I mean NOT mount magazine but "inventory". Anybody has any problems after applying device update 3??? THANK YOU for your replies.

I don't understand what the problem is.

Correct me if I'm wrong but
all the new tapes were correctly identified
none of the tapes needed to be manually read
the operation took hardly any time
tapes were not manually read saving wear and tear on the tapes

Take for example a user that just added 100 new tapes to the library, manually loading those tapes will take a significat amount of time. This sounds like an enhancement and not a problem.

OK David,
BUT, the function "Mount mag." always worked that way I described (it was inventoried) and now it does NOT inventory anything even it doesn't write anything to activity log about inventoring/mounting the new magazine.(before it did). Of course, in the device manager I can see new tapes but I'm not sure if this is enough. I don't know if you understand what I mean yet :) Thank you for your reply!

I am in the process of re-installing ArcServe 11 because of device patch 3. Just got off the phone with another consultant from my company who is onsite at another client and he is having the same issues I had with the patch. Below is the link to the thread, good luck.

I think this is, in fact, the way it should always have worked. The Library 'knows' which tapes are in which slots by doing a quick hardware and barcode scan and has to communicate this to ARCserve. Maybe after applying the device fix the communication between hardware and software has improved resulting in this behaviour.

regards

This could be good explanation BUT there is nothing about new tapes (magazine) in activity log... Before this "patch" there was "magazine successfully mounted" and then inventoried for all slots extra. Now I can see anything in the activity log except the pop up window "mag. was mounted succesfully", but nothing in activity log, as it was before. I posted this problem to CA and I'm not sure I will solve it with them :-(
This is their answer:

Please let us know if the manual inventory you did show up the new media
properly. If so, check if there were any errors or warnings reported in the
activity log or the event viewer of the OS. Is the SCSI driver and firmware for the device the latest?

With the issue we had, the activity log showed nothing. Our primary problem was after applying the patch, we could no longer export tapes, but after exporting, the activity log stated that the export was complete. I had to email our log to CA support twice since they wouldn't believe us. I had to take screenshots and email those.

By the way, we completely reinsalled ArcServe 11 up to the 2nd device patch, and all has been fixed. You might want to consider doing the same.

Best of luck.

Thank you, maybe I will wait until CA makes new Device Update :) Is any possibility to download Device patch 2 from CA's website? Now, there is only DU3 and unfortunatelly on my harddrive is only Device patch 1 and device update 3. THANKS
