I posted about this with a 5621sw ip, after trying many of the suggestions, I called the vendor and asked for a service call or for them to replace the phone.

They brought me a 4621sw ip and assured me that the backlight function would indeed work.

It does not.

Here is the settings from the 46xx.txt file

############### DISPLAY BACKLIGHT CONTROL ################
##
## Idle Time Before Turning Off Backlight (minutes)
## Number of minutes without phone activity to wait
## before turning off backlight. A value of 0 means the
## backlight is never turned off. This parameter is
## supported only by phones which have a backlight.
## The default is 120 minutes.
SET BAKLIGHTOFF 2
##

Restarted the phone several times...it's still a nightlight.

We are running IP Office version 4.2.11

Given that I have tried two different phones, is it possible it is something in the system itself, firmware on the phone or something simple that I'm overlooking? This phone is supposed to go home with the COO of our company and I can't have it backlit all the time.

Everything will be OK in the end.
If it's not OK, then it's not the end

twiSSt,

The backlight off feature has ALWAYS worked on the 4621. It sounds to me like your 4621 (and presumably the 5621 if you had the correct firmware), is unble to access the 46xxsettings.txt file.

When your 4621 first powers up and goes through the boot sequence, do you see it requesting by HTTP or TFTP the 46xxsettings.txt file?

If your phone cannot read the 46xxsettings.txt file, the backlight will not time out until 2 hours has elapsed (the default setting).

Oeps is did not read well :)

Bas is right, you need ot upgrade to 4.2.14 to get it working
