I have a Compaq #7596 and when I turn it on the monitor turns on then immediatelly goes to the standby mode. Of course the warranty is over by 1 month..but the place I purchased it from said it was a mother board problem...Have any ideas what it might be...

When you switch on the computer do you see anything of the boot up procedure?

If you can get to the screen where you can get to a series of boot up options. (by pressing F8 during booting up) then I may be able to suggest some ideas.

Make sure that the cable is firmly connected and that there are no bent pins on the connector. Does the monitor show a message at all? If so it's probably O.K. and the problem is with the video card or the connection to it.

I turn on the computer and tne monitor light goes from green to orange immediatelly..I tried the f8, but there is nothing to see, as the monitor doesn't come on. Best Buy said it was a motherboard problem...what do you think?

Do you hear any beeps when the computer is turned on?

Or a power supply problem. Do you see indicator lights on the case?
It is possible that BestBuy has seen enough that they can say that with 100% certainty. And if so, do you want to fix it?

It makes no noise, just the light on the monitor comes on then goes in sleep mode. Best Buy said it was not the monitor that was a problem...

How about lights on the computer case? No lights there indicate probable power supply problem.
Should have power on light whether or not the M/B is processing.
How about pulling the power cables out for a 30 seconds or so on the CPU, then try powering up again with the video powered up first. Looking for the monitor to go to green 2 or 3 seconds after the power is applied to the CPU.

It was unplugged and taken to Best Buy, when they checked it they said....mother board probelem..Thats pretty generic..I didn't notice if the light came on on the computer or not...

It is probably not your monitor. This usually means something major is wrong with the PC.
The simplest thing to do is to take out the memory and the video card and then put them back in.
Be careful to reinsert them the correct way.
Sometimes it is as simple as they have wiggled loose from the heat and vibrations.
Beyond that it will take someone with good PC skills to fix.

It might be dead. It happens.

As you are able to post on this forum, you must have access to another computer. Are you able to attach the suspect faulty monitor to this other computer?

Has a onboard video card...Monitor is good...Will have th emother board checked...Thanks for all the help....
