After 2 years with no problems my VGA LCD monitor has suddenly started going into standby mode automatically after about 2 seconds. When you turn it back on, it does the same thing. I have swapped the monitor with a very similar spare monitor and it all works fine. If I then plug back in the original monitor it works fine but if I reboot then the problem recurs. Is it a windows fault do you think. Anyone come across this?

Well, an easy way to check would be to run a live CD version of Linux, like Ubuntu. All you do is load the CD into your drive, boot from the CD, answer a question or two on version 6, and on the newest version 7 I don't think you have to answer more than MAYBE one question. It just works. So, then if you don't have the monitor problem with Linux, then it's a Windows problem. [wink]

I would guess that it is a setting in Windows that is causing it, given that you didn't get the same issue after unplugging and replugging the monitor to the computer. It sounds like maybe a bad driver or some weird settings that Windows is putting with that monitor after reboot each time.

another way to test this, is to hook the monitor up to another 'working' PC, if it behaves like on the first PC then it is the MONITOR...
