Hi,

I have a laptop which I use in the Office and at home. At home, I have a Proview 17" flat panel monitor. When I connect the laptop at Office, it automatically sets the resolution accordingly (already set by me), but at home, I need to update the driver always when I need to have the desired resolution. Why it doesn't take the settings which I keep automatically. Even when the laptop goes on standby at home, the resolution setting gets changes? Any idea what is happening?

I have two settings available in Display Properties, both doesn't work at the first time. I have to reinstall the driver and the reboot the machine to have the new settings to take effect.

Thanks,

What screen resolution does it want to use at Home, and what does it use at work?
On your Laptop are you using Dual Monitors at home but not at work, or is it the same setup at work?

This goes into setting up dual monitors correctly.

Expand your workspace with multiple monitors.

Are you fully updated with Video Card drivers as well as Monitor drivers?

On this site it says that your Monitor has (only?) Resolutions supported 1280 x 1024.

This may be the Support Site for your Monitor?

This probably doesn't apply.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I am not using dual monitors in Office or home. Both resolution I need is 1280x1024. In Office this works perfect always, whenever I connect it takes the required resolution. I am using a Sony 17" CRT at Office.

At home, when I connect the laptop, it goes back to the 640x480 and I have only two choice in the Display property setting either 640x480 or 1024x768. When I reinstall the driver for my Proview 17" at home, I have many choices (1280x1024, 1280x768, 1280x720, 1152x864, 1024x768, and 800x600) and I can choose the 1280x1024. If I restart the laptop or when it comes back from stanby, the resolution goes back to 640x480 and I will only have two choices.

Have you checked for any update to the Driver you are using? Even if there isn't one, perhaps another copy of the current one installed might correct the problem?

Can you try your Monitor on any other machine?

Hi linney,

Thanks for the quick response. I really appreciate it. I have tried connecting the same monitor to another machine and it works like a charm. The problem comes only when I connect this to my Office laptop. I will try installing another driver and see whether the problem resolves.

Thanks again,

Or (as at your office) use another Monitor at home for your laptop. Or another laptop, it does seem to be a compatibility problem between hardware, but that is just stating the obvious. I hope you find a better driver, either for your Video Card or Monitor.
