I have a computer I just reformatted and installed 98se on. The color is stuck on 16colors and resolution is also off. I tried 2 monitors, both old(very old), one is a Power Computing and the other is a Supermatch. The company I work for is very cheap and doesn't want to get a new one. Are there any solutions?

subcarrier,

When you say that the color depth is stuck at 16 colors, do you mean in the Display properties? If so, you may need to install an updated Video driver, and possibly adjust the properties for your monitor.

Yes, when you format and reload the os, you then need to install drivers for any devices windows does not detect. You are likely using a standard vga driver. You need to find out what kind of video card you have, and install the correct driver.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

I agree you need to find out you video card or chip if on the motherboard and update it from the manufacturer. Most manufacturers have downloadable drivers right on their website.
Although I have only seen it happen on Win 95 you may have to run the software for your monitor. But if this were the case, you would be receiving an error message saying the video properties are not corerect for the system you are using.
