Monitor or graphics card failure?

One day, after operating perfectly for years, my monitor shows white with streaks through it and any letters on it are very hard to read. I can use the monitor with black or blue backgrounds and yellow or bright green letters. Is it the monitor or the graphics card? I do not have spares of either to test. If it is the monitor (a 17" NEC Multisynch FE750 out of warranty), does it pay to get it fixed? Is there a store that fixes NEC monitors?

I am running 200 Professional with all patches and security fixes current. I am running it on a Dell 700Mhz system with a GeForce DDR (Dell) graphics adapter.

Hi.
It sounds for me like its the monitor that have the failure.
I had a problem that sounds very close to yours, and the monitor was the problem. I dont believe its the graphic card. Anyway, the prices on new monitors are very low, especially 17". So if I was you, I would buy a new one.
P.S. You should consider buying a new os system, win"200" is very old i guess

I agree...sounds like the monitor - or the information connection from the monitor to the computer. If it was the graphics card, it wouldn't affect startup as far as i am aware. Is this the case? Are your startup screens garbled? I think these graphics are controlled by the motherboard....but im an amateur so dont blame me if im wrong

Well guys, I am afraid that we got it wrong. It was the graphics card after all. There is a small fan on the graphics card that I do not think is working and it fried the card. The good news is that I got a new Samsung 171P digital flat screen that is absolutlely spactacular. Now I have to figure out what to do with my perfectly good NEC FE750. Any ideas?
