When I start my computer up by clicking the power button on the front I see every device booting up with all the right lights flashing on. The problem I have is that I get no signal to the monitor. It stays powered on only with the orange standby light on and it does not seem to be recieving a signal from my computer.

I am forced to keep turning off the computer since the monitor isnt responding. Whats odd is if I go on and off long enough, after many tries I eventually get the screen to respond.

I have 1HD, a CD writer, DVD rom, an AMD Thunderbird 1000mhz, and a VIA KT133A EP-8KTA3L+ motherboard. I use a GeForce 4 Ti 4400 3d card.

If you have any idea what the problem might be please respond. Thanks.

What is your power supply rated at? Where is your monitors
power source? ie: PC or Wall Outlet?

My power supply is an Antec 300 Watt ATX 2.03 compliant if thats what you were asking. And my power source is the wall.

Did it ever work correctly? Is the Video card a new/or replacement? Is the monitor a new/or replacement or a Packard Bell monitor? Have you tried turning the monitor on first, then the PC?

Yah it worked correctly with this computer setup before. Started about 2 weeks ago and I have not changed any hardware. The moniter is a ViewSonic and yes I have tried turning the screen on first then the computer, doesnt seem to do the trick. Could it be the cold weather? Starting getting cold about 2 weeks ago so thats my only guess at the moment.

Have you relocated (moved) your computer with in the
last 2 weeks? Is your monitor cable loose or over extended?

Also, have you tried the reset button on the front of your monitor (if your model has one)?

My computer has not moved in the last 2 weeks and yah I checked the cable and it seems to be very secure. I've tried the reset button but it just restarts with no signal to the monitor. If the monitor works when i reset it will go off then on flawlessly.

Would appear its either the monitor or video card playing up, my money would be on the video card and the possibility is that it is only badly seated. Remove it and replace it ensuring that it is firmly and correctly seated. If that is no good you can eliminate the monitor by either borrowing another one and trying that or try your monitor on another system. If still no go I would be looking at doing the same with the video card. Help us to help you, please post back and tell us if this helped.

All things are possible except skiing through a revolving door.

If you can get into your bios, make sure power saving mode is off. Also might be worth pulling your video card out and
then putting it back in case it may have become unseated slightly. If you can borrow another monitor it may help you in determining wether the problem is in your monitor or video card. Also if your monitor is plugged into a surge strip you might want to try plugging it directly into the wall outlet.

One other thing to check whilst you're looking into the BIOS. Does your motherboard have on-board graphics which are not being used? i.e. you appear to have a card in there in which case you don't use the on-board facility.

If so, ensure that your motherboard reflects this.

If you can eliminate this, then I agree with the previous posts, either monitor or card. Error! Keyboard not attached. Press F1 to continue

I've been having the same problem. Sometimes when I keep pressing on the reset button though, the monitor accidenatally turns on. I already have XP Pro installed. I have a 350 watts PSU, 1.7ghz celeron and a geforce 2 ti xtasy graphics card. If I restart, nothing goes wrong...but if I Shut Down, and start my computer via the power button, there's no signal on the monitor except the orange light....

Have a look at the motherboard manufacturer's site for a bios update. I had a somewhat similar issue on an HP Brio a couple of months ago that was cured with a bios update.
