monitor Issue

Hi, my monitor is intermittently resizing from the sides jumping in and out. Is this a tell-tale sign that the monitor is ready to go?

It is nearly 7 years old!

I assume by the age that it is a large CRT monitor, not a TFT LCD flat screen...sounds like the tube is going, or the flyback transformer. You might be able to get it fixed but that's doubtful, as the labor would cost as much a new flat screen and then some, plus you would need to find a TV repairman (remember those guys???). A PC shop would probably give you the same advice.

Yes, it's CRT, cheers for that! I'll need to have a look at Flat screns then!

I agree with acewarlock, it may not be your monitor. Test it before plunking down your hard cash.

Good ideas guys. I have had the exact same symptoms with CRTs and it was always the CRT, but better to be safe than sorry.

I have had that happen with a Vidio card.

I've seen both of those, and I've seen bad cables/connectors cause this.
