I have an application with some modules that have been written by another programmer who is no longer in the employ of our company. We can't open them in design view. Design view is greyed out.

Does anyone know how I can view the code in these modules?

Modules dont have design view. Modules are VBA code only.

Hate to disagree with you, Pete, but when I go to design view of a module it takes me to the VBA code. So it should have the functionality Hayton is seeking.
Can't figure out the greyed out thing, though.
Can you go to the design view of forms, Hayton?

Hi Northnone,

I think this guy has written code to grey out Run Design and New views/functions so that we can't use them. I have also tried to import the modules from another application and am not able to. He has blocked this process as well.

Have you tried the Shift Bypass trick? When starting up the database hold down the shift key to bypass the startup routine?

Is it possibly an MDE database, which would be compiled and not allowing you to view design or code?

-Pete

Is this an MDB or an MDE file?
Does it have security on it?
If so, is it User-Level security or just database level security?

Guys I think the problem is that it is an MDE file!

Let's hope this person left an 'mdb' version around, or that one exists on your backup tapes somewhere!

Guys thanks for the advice. I will contact the guy and ask where the MDB version is.
