Modifying Balance Sheet & Income Statement

We are currently running Great Plains Dynamics 7.00g5 on System Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 Build. I am trying to modify the layout of the Balance Sheet and Income Statement. When I try clicking the modify button after printing it to the screen, I get the following message..."The current report cannot be modified because it was not created by Report Writer." How can I modify it and also how can I get the previous year-to-date information on the current report? I want to be able to see the current YTD and previous YTD on the same report.
