modem problem

first post on here,nothing serious,just that
we have a option 81 at our site and we just installed a opt.11 tied into it,the problem is i(we)can't get a modem to work,we've tried replacing it,we have configured ok,anybody can assist we appreciate it.

What is not working? Can you call it and get the modem squeal? does it not connect to the PBX when you do get to the modem? What type of modem? Are you getting in but getting garbage on the screen?
