I know that I have a modem on my laptop running windows 2000, but it seems that it's disabled, I can't find in my anything about the modem used. I tried the control pannel, or my computer, hardware, device manager, no modem there!!
I don't have the win2k cd.

I have done the following steps:
1- control pannel, Add/Remove hardware
2- Add/Troublshoot a device
3- Add a new device
4- Windows is detecting new hardware
5- widows did not find any new devices on your computer
6- I want to select the hardware from a list
7- I selected the modems from the list
8- Windows attempting to find my modem
9- Windows did not any new legacy (non Plug & play) modems attached to your computer
10- I'm selecting my modem from the list
11- On which pors do you want to install it?

Here it is I don't have any port to select from and go to the next step. I don't know why it don't give me any ports.

what should i do?
thanks

Make sure your Modem is inabled in BIOS.

Where in BIOS i should look. I don't have any information in the BIOS about my modem.

If you have any info on your system you might try searching the net for info on your Modem..I know this will be hard without a modem to connect to the net!
The thing is your Modem might be a HCF software based modem...
On these the modem does very little work as the signal is processed by windows driver files! The are usually controllerless and have no DSP on board.
I would say your modem is a software modem as mine does the same thing and it is!
see if you can find the name of the modem and download the rivers from the Net!

Hope this helps

I got the name of my modem:

It's an "Intel Pro 100 SP Mobile Combo Adapter"

I downloaded a driver for it but it still doesn't work.

Hi krush123
1-Go into BIOS and browse though it to find out if the is anything about the Modem.
Is there any yellow or red mark devices in Device Manage?

My laptop is a IBM Thinkpad A22m and it has an "Intel Pro 100 SP Mobile Combo Adapter"It is a combo
card with the Intell 10/100 Ethernet Lan and a Lucent 56k V.90 Fax Modem .

I checked in the BIOS, there is non information about the modem.

In device manager my Ethernet Controller has a yellow sign on it.

Are you downloading the drivers for the ethernet lan or modem....I have checked IBMs website and it has 2 different files for your device...one for the modem and one for the LAN.
it says the file is 19Mb though!for the entire ethernet package.

or...
which is just the driver for the Modem

Hi
Now we are getting somewhere. Of course it cannot be found in BIOS, because it is an external device.
Try drivers from Intel site. If that fails, dismount/uninstall the device, remove software. Re-start and let W2K to find and load drivers.

Thanks for your suggestion.
My modem is an internal modem.
I downloaded the necessary drivers, but I stil have the original problem which is:

Control panel\phone and modem options\location information

my country list is an empty list and I can't continue to next page to set up.

OK Crush, try this, it usually works.

Firstly, backup your registry. Then got to START, RUN, and type REGEDIT. Double click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, below it you will see a subsection called Enum, double click it to expand it. Do the same to the one marked PCI, you should now see some keys marked VEN_*******, expand each one and below it you will see another key marked BUS_******. Expand that key and each one will show you a name and data in the right-hand pane. One of those is your modem and the name will be clear. Now delete the key marked BUS_*******. Reboot, and Win98 will install your modem.

The big setup file from the IBM website is to update the country list problem!

In my registery I don't have the subsection that you entionned, maybe because I'm running Win2k and not win98.
In the registery I have :

HKEY_Local_machine
-Hardware
-sam
-security
-software
-system
