the use robotics can be set up with a level of security, it will even accept a password then call back a preprogramed number, allowing no direct access except that preprogramed number. out sties use a seb, that not only needs a password for access but dials out when the switch sends sch codes.. i don't concern myself with security, by setting up the switch to disable the tty after 3 attempts, the possibility of getting a 6 digits password after the user name within 3 attempts is 10 times as hard as winning the lottery back to back.. i never leave a core modem on line.. that password is to well known
I thought that Nortel had implemented a way to change the PDT password right around the time 25.40b came out. I could be wrong, but that's my recollection. Anybody know the answer to this?
As StanleySteamer has stated, Nortel wrote the patch MPLR13326 for software releases from V22 up to V25.15?. Once installed, unauthorised access can be prevented by it's change.
At V25.40 (I think!), a new "pdt" command of "passwd" was provided at the top level code to allow the system maintainer to change it.
Be careful when changing it, because it should only be carried out by people who know what they are doing!. Like most things in life, "a little knowledge can be very dangeous"!.
