I can be surfing the internet quite happily and then for some unexplained reason the PC stops transferring data. It stays idle for a while and then kicks back into action again. Does anyone know why as it is getting really annoying.
The internet is like a speedway with ever possible taffic jams or other forms of bootleneck delays (peak demand time of day, a major backbone is down, maintenance, etc). The best you can do is look for patterns such as time of day or site specific patterns, for example.
How long is 'a while'. Is there a pattern? If not, you might be experiencing random bootlenecks. Find out if such occurances are known to your ISP. Let them know what you are experiencing.
If delays are happening daily at all times of the day and frequently, then it is time to consider having a good look at your system by perhaps trying a different modem, running some diagnostics or logs, uninstalling and reinstalling driver components.
Hmmmm, are you running a network card as well the modem?,
if so, goto control panel/networks and select TCp/IP for your network card. Give it an IP address and subnet and apply then restart, should solve your problems for you. If your not running a network (but have card installed anyway), either remove TCP/IP for the card or remove the card. If you are running a network but are using NETBUI to connect to it, again remove TCP/IP for the network card as its not used. All these will cure your problems, but onlty if you have a network card with a `windows assigned IP` installed
