Hi Guys,
My mobo just blow up so I need to get a new one. I had an Elitegroup 661FX-M but I am interested in buying an ASUS P5P800.
Will my existing processor Graphic card etc fit/work on the proposed ASUS mobo??
How can I check??

Thanks

Jonas

No it won't!

The P5P800 has the latest socket 775, you need a motherboard with the socket 478.

If you are an asus fan then check out the P4P800 series (E/E Deluxe/SE/X) which are all based on the same Intel 865PE chipset as the (P5P800) but will be compatible with your socket 478 CPU.

Just to be sure check the CPU compatibility listing for the motherboard you choose (Asus or otherwise)

CPU support list

Possible Asus motherboards

Remember that you would be advised to reinstall your operating system after a major component change like this(differant chipset) Intel 865PE compared to SiS® 661FX & 964

Just to ellaborate on the reinstall thing.
If you went for a replacement motherboard with exactly the same chipset thus driver configuration you might get away without the need to reinstall.
So I've posted you an alternative suggestion if that helps, same chipset as your ECS (Elite Group) motherboard.

Asus P4S800-MX SE (mini ATX style like your old board)

Although it has to be said the Intel 865PE is a better choice.
Also note* your old motherboard was a mini ATX style, have you room in your case for a full length ATX motherboard.

Thanks for a quick response.
I guess I don't have any preference but I have a few other computers with ASUS mobo that have been working OK. This Elitegroup mobo is only 6 month old.
You say that it is different chipset "Intel 865PE compared to SiS® 661FX & 964". Does that mean that it might not work??
Thanks for giving me an optional motherboard really appreciate that. I have left the computer with a "PC shop" and they asked me what kind of mobo I wanted so that is why I am doing a bit of research. They wanted to put in the same type of mobo that I have but I wanted something more solid - that why chose the ASUS. Re if a full length mobo will fit - I don't know :(. I have to look in to that.

Thanks for all your help/ideas

OK.
The original was undoubtedly chosen because it was a cheap build, ECS is not known for quality and this SIS chipset (budget) makes for a very cheap motherboard option on a low end build.
When I say differant chipset all I mean is the main motherboard controller chips are by a differant maker, they both work just fine but as I say, SIS is regarded as being budget, low end and chosen for cheapness, motherboards using an Intel chipset will often perform slightly better but because of their higher cost tend to be used on the more expensive models.
