I just bought a Dell 4500 P4 1.8Ghz PC that has a Intel 845 Chipset and I was curious if I can use the PC133 SDRAM from my old Compaq 475mhz celeron PC with the new DDR SDRAM in the new PC? Thanks

Nope. PC 133 and DDR are physically different (even though you might not notice it right away). Don't even try it, as you will blow something out if you manage to get it into the motherboard!!

If you want to look, you can see that the DIMM is lacking a notch on the bottom of the memory where the PC133 has one. ----------------------------------------
Groucho Marx said it best...

Thanks Mudskipper. I didn't think so, but I was just curious cause I'm getting Windows XP with the PC and I've heard that its a memory hog. I'll have 256MB, so I hope it will handle XP. Thanks again.

Another thing to note...if you are going to get a memory upgrade, get the same type as what you have now (same make at least).
Mixing makes of RAM isn't a good idea...

I dunno what other sites do it, but lets you enter the type of board you have, and tells you the exact type of RAM to get.

Regards

256 is plenty to run XP. Just 128 isn't enough.

just go to the system properties and turn all the crap off under advanced>performance and your win xp will run must faster
