Am attempting to run an app on Win98(Band in a Box) that requires wmvcore.dll. By installing updated updating Windows Media Player, the missing dll is also installed. The app still won't run and now gives Error Msg: "The BBW.Exe file is linked to missing export WMVCORE.dll:WMCreateSynchReader". BBW.exe appears to be part of the app.
Any suggestions for fixing this problem?
Many Thanks,

You say wmvcore.dll is there. Did you try regsrv it?

Thanks for thought.
Regsrv32 successfully registered wmvcore.dll. However, the app still won't run and produces the same result as in my original post.

Tech support at PGMusic, publisher of Band in a Box, says the app runs under Win98 (first edition) and that problem may be a wmvcore.dll version issue. (But they couldn't say which version to use.) Win Media Play, which uses wmvcore.dll Ver 7.1.0.3055, seems to work fine. Guess I'll see what other versions I can find.

hi ya timthedog,
I have exactly the same problem with
band in a box, windows 98 says it needs
WMVCORE.DLL I've searched 98 = 98 se
but can't find that file. it seems you
were advised to use reg cure etc., and
I tried regvac, but had no joy,
have you found an answer yet please ?

Hi Buster,
I tried various versions of WMVCORE.dll, duly editing the registry each time. The problem was no longer a missing dll but some other incompatibility. It was an interesting challenge but I ran out of time and patience and bypassed the mess by installing XP. Surprisingly, XP actually works on my old Sony PGC-505CS with its small harddrive. One tip if you ever try this, think twice before letting MS upgrade XP with all the security stuff as it really bloats the software footprint. I may actually have to reinstall XP to have room for my Band-in-a-Box data files. (The security stuff was unimportant to me since the old Sony laptop will not be running on-line.)
Good luck,
Jim

hi Jim,
thank-you very much for your
reply. what had gone wrong
was that my "music computer"
had so many bits of software
and equipment linked up with
each other, and took ages to
set up, [I had vowed I'd never
change a thing], but a friend
passed over the latest version
of b.i.a.b. and I tried to
upgrade but lost the original,
today I acquired a copy of the
older version, and am back up
and running, it does the trick,
and the rest of my system would'nt
handle xp..... anyway, I was going to
offer to get a 98 friendly copy
to you, but it seems like you're
sorted now.

cheers mate,

chris.
