Hi all.

after win98se loads, there is a message "windows is searching for MXTask.exe". I would like to delete this message if possible. Thanks for any help

Go to start>run, type msconfig, click OK. Go to startup tab, find your entry, uncheck it, hit OK, reboot.

Also, I would scan for viruses and spyware to be safe, not sure what mxtask.exe is. Any chance its looking for mstask.exe?

Good spyware scanner, spybot, don't forget to update it.

P.S. Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

MXTASK is likely a holdover from a partially removed System Suite or Fix-It Tools AntiVirus loader. It will be listed in MSCONFIG under Services as "SystemSuite Task Manager" or "Fix-It Utilities Task Manager," with Manufacturer name of V Communications, Inc. (or if it's an old installation, OnTrack Data International).

Still a good idea to scan for viruses & spyware; this just isn't a reason.

Sloth is the mother of invention. Necessity is just a mother...

mattjurado, ttterk you were both 100% on!
msconfig solved my problem and yes it was a left over from System Suite that caused all the problem.

thanks
