Missing "shell.dll" in Windows 2000- How can I restore it?

Ever since I got rid of my "about.Blank" hijack, my system tells me it can't find shell.dll.

It has not been a problem.... until now. I am trying to instal a program that crashes and aborts the install because of missing Shell.dll.

How can I fix this problem?

shell.dll appears to be an operating system file.

the only thing that I can think of is to try and
copy it from your operating system cd and save it into "C:\windows\system32" (Please note that the save to location will vary dependent upon the operating system you have.)

Also you might want to post this on the proper forum.

MeGustaXL, just curious, did you ever get your problem fixed? After looking at the other thread, you never said anything about the problem being resolved. It's always best to post back to let others know your problem is fixed, if indeed it is, along with any thanks, suggestions, issues, etc. For instance, in your case, you said you had no operating system CD. Did you find the file somewhere else on the web, or did you use this method by borrowing a CD or something? What was the solution?

Yeah, Sorry Guys, it did sort it - I borrowed another XP CD and blagged it from there

Thanks for the update!

I can vouch that running that restore feature in Windows can fix many a problems. I've fixed a few before that seemed hopeless to fix. I'd imagine that the missing file would be an easy fix with the restore operation. It also does not affect other programs, and takes only a matter of minutes to complete the operation if your hardware is anything worth running Windows XP on.

That's just my 2 cents on that.
