Installation includes Exchange 2007, Outlook 2007 & Office (Word) 2000. Predefined symbols, coorecting accidental usage of the CAPS LOCK key, capitalizing the first letter of a sentence and a few other rules will not work. This is documented as a problem.

Does anyone know a way around this (other than installing Office 2007?)

I would hope your installation does not include Exchange 2007.

Outlook 2007 and Word 2000 do not interoperate. This is by design. The only way to get that lot to work is to install Word 2007. Further information can be gained if you post to the Office forum not Exchange.

I see that I was not too clear. On the server we have Exchange Server 2007. On the desktop we have Outlook 2007 & Office 2000. The problem is that Outlook 2007 and Word 2000 do not play well together. Certain functions in Outlook 2007 are greyed out and unavailable. These include some of the autocorrect functions.

My question is: Is there any known fix for this problem, so that I can get the autocorrect functions back in Outlook 2007?

So sorry - I did not see the second part of you answer, before I responded. I will post in the Office forum and see if anyone has any advice. Thank you for taking the time to answer - twice. I appreciate it.

Basically it won't work. All new versions of Office will work with older ones from now to address this but anything 2007 or earlier means you need the same version of Word as Outlook or you'll see what you see.
