When system starts the following message comes up as written in subject line. Is it anything major? Can I fix this problem? Thanks

Looks like an error message from config.sys telling you that the driver is bad.
What OS are you using? Does your cd work?
This line is usually added when you run the install program. It is not needed in most systems running W95 or higher. There are also programs added into autoexec.bat by the same install program.
Post your config and autoexec and find out what can come out. Ed Fair

I'm using Win98. A matter of fact my CDROM's autorun doesn't work. Even with the Auto Insert Notification box ticked.

Can you access it? Autorun is something to worry about when you can access the drive.
How did 98 get loaded? If as an upgrade then stuff carries over from previous OS.
98 has built in drivers for cds (at least most cds) so that failure shouldn't stop the OS from seeing the drive.
Post your config.sys and autoexec.bat. That will help trace the source of the problem and give some guidance to the proper cure. Ed Fair

My config.sys is:
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE
; SBPCI mod: DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS /TESTMEM:OFF
DOS=HIGH,UMB
DEVICEHIGH=C:\CDROM\TAISATAP.SYS /D:CD1

My autoexec.bat is:
REM - By Windows Setup - SET BLASTER=A220 I7 D1 T2

rem - By Windows Setup - C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\MSCDEX.EXE /D:CD1
@ECHO OFF
PROMPT $P$G
PATH=C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND;C:\;C:\CDROM

My Win 98 is not an upgrade.

Nothing in either of these that should be of any help to you.
I would rename config.sys config.sav and autoexec.bat to autoexec.sav and see what happens.
98 doesn't need anything loaded in either of these to be fully functional.
In the meantime, just to prove to myself that I could correct the problem, I would boot into DOS, edit config.sys, and delete the last character of line 4 through the first character of line 6, then re do everything that I had deleted. This should take out and control characters or non-visible characters that could be upsetting the OS.

Open windows explorer and look in your C:\CDROM folder and see if TAISATAP.SYS is there. You can download it from the link if it's missing.

For the autorun problem, if the drive is still working try #10 here: Download, unzip, place the reg file on your desktop and doubleclick on it. Now see if it'll autorun.

Your CD rom will never autorun while it is been used in windows as a 16 bit compatability drive, to over come this you don't load any dos drivers for a cd rom drive...that is what windows will load when it boots up.....

so just REM/delete out that line in your config...

Windows does not need dos drivers unless you are using plain old dos.... but what can dos do more then windows on dos :)

Thanks for the links Kento!! I appreciate your help, and everyone elses. I've fixed my autorun problem. But still not the TAISATAP.SYS one. I downloaded the link you gave me Kento but that didn't work

Hello, sascommando.

You've used devicehigh in config.sys for the cdrom driver, should you not loadhigh the mscdex.exe in your autoexec.bat? Try put LH in front of that line, ie,

LH C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\MSCDEX.EXE /D:CD1

regards - tsuji

There is no mscdex being called in autoexec.bat. Wouldn't make any difference anyway if it was loading low.

Edit your config.sys and delete line 5, and while you're at it delete line 3.

And if you are really brave delete the file along with the autoexec.bat.

Soundblaster install jiggered your two files. Ed Fair
