I am trying to get a pc to work that says the following files are missing or corrupted:COMMAND.COM....Then it say to type the name of the Command Interpreter (e.g.,C:\windows\command.com). I have used my windows boot disk with no results. I have considered pulling the jumper to wipe the cmos and start from scratch but I thought I would ask here first.

Is the boot disk itself corrupted ?
If you made it on the same machine it might be.
If you can aquire an old set of MS-DOS installation disks, try booting up with disk one as it is a system disk designed for machines with no operation system. (Use F3 to exit if it does work or it you may end up with a DOS only machine !)
This should tell you if your problem is your software or in your bios.

Hi there!
I'm getting the same error message when I try out boot disks from Norton Antivirus prog. How/Where do I get a new command.com file?

mxw <-total novice, plain simple terms pls. thx

mxw, if you mean that you get this error when booting from a floppy, then I'd suggest re-creating the floppy. Alternatively, you could try starting your PC normally, bring up a DOS session, insert the failing floppy (not write-protected) & type in sys a:

Now see if the floppy will boot OK.
One by one, the penguins steal my sanity. X-)

This thread has nothing to do with certification and testing. You will get a lot more help if you post the problem in the correct forum for the version of Windows you are running.
Jeff
I haven't lost my mind - I know it's backed up on tape somewhere ....

MasterRacker,
'missing/corrupt command.com' the search thingy brought me to this thread - sorry
Yes, I did post to the Norton Antivirus.

ayjaycee,
okay, I'll try that too - sys a:

thx,
mxw
