My OS is Windows XP running on an HP Pavilion452 Desktop (uk) and when I try to access the HP Help file I get the message [marscore.dll not found]. I have tried Hewlet Packard as well as every Fourim I am regestered with but without any success. The nearest I have got is that it is part of the shell for Windows 2000 help file but I cannot find it on Microsoft. Can anyone give any indication as to how to find this please ?

Do you know anybody running ME? You could get a copy from them.

Trying to pick it up online might be hard as it was originally called something like MarsPCH and and was kept under strict control by Microsoft, as Mars was the code name for their new PCHealth setup. On the ME CD it is even stored in a cab file (WIN_12.CAB) as Marspch and gets renamed to Marscore.dll on installation. Or you have to rename it manually if you extract it from the ME CD.

This is why you may have to contact Microsoft as per Q269244 if you want that Dll and don't have a ME user friend.

Thanks for your suggestions. The Q269244 refers to the help file not shutting down which is the opposite to my problem and I do not know anyone using Windows 2000. I have tried the Microsoft site but my problem there is that they ask for the Product ID and to find this I need to open the 'Help' file !!! I have emailed again to see if they can suggest a fix for this but from past experience I do not have much hope. Will let you know if I find the answer.

The Q269244 refers to that, but also to the fact that you can contact MS for a dll that is missing or corrupt.
If you look for the narscore on MS, that is the link you get.
If the solution is out there, let us know it was helpful, so others can benefit from it as well..

Since my last posting I have discovered, from other forums, and from experience, that I could not reinstall windows XP without this file and have now requested a CD Rom from Hewellet Packard. For information purposes I tried to "Recover the system from the Windows XP desktop" and also "Recovering the system without using Windows". Both without success and in the second try had the blue screen of death 'Fatal Error c000021a'. If I have any other information I will keep you posted.

another case of an upgrade from 98/98se/me going wrong format and install the full version of xp

Sorry for the long delay in this posting !!! I have eventually contacted HP and requested a set of 'System Recovery' disks (7 in all) and after backing up my essential information, have now a full working computer. As a point of interest Hewlett Packard supply these disks free so perhaps other makers do the same. Thanks for all the suggestions.

You're all set now, good If the answer is here, mark it, others can benefit from it too. If 'something' 'somewhere' gives 'some' error, excpect random guesses or no replies at all. Please specify details.
