The Log Off/or Change Users icon is missing from all the start menus of all the users. In order to log off I have to restart the computer each time. I've enabled everything I know to enable in safe mode, and nothing, no icon. WHERE'S MY ICON???? I've never encountered this, but it seems there is some glogal setting not selected somewhere. Anyone know where it would be?

While I'm at it, in all the Admin accounts Start menus, having set them up in 'Properties' for Show MyComputer as link, Show Controm Panel as link, etc. these settings turn themselves off the next time I turn the computer off. What is happening here (I do click on 'apply' before 'ok')?

Thanks.

Are you on a Windows domain? Group policy can remove it. If it's been disabled in this way it wouldn't appear in the Shutdown dialog box either.

For some reason it doesn't appear in Group Policy anywhere. I can't find it in regedit either. I heard about malware that could cause this. Any truth to that? Should I use a registry cleaner or something?

Anything in these GPO's?

Remove Logoff Requirements:
Location: User Configuration\System\Ctrl+Alt+Del Options\

Description:
Prevents the user from logging off.

This setting does not let the user log off the system by using any method, including programs run from the command line, such as scripts. It also disables or removes all menu items and buttons that log the user off the system.

Also, see the "Remove Logoff on the Start Menu" setting
Location: User Configuration\Start Menu and Taskbar\

See Line 30, left column for
the saving settings issue.

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right-click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking. Select both boxes.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

When was the last time you looked in the Event Viewer, maybe there are a few errors in there that need your attention?
