I created a distribution list but its not showing up in the GAL. It shows up in the Group list, but not the GAL. Is this a new feature with 2003 or am I missing a step. I dont have "hide from list" checked either. I went into the users container and created a dist. list and then added the members. Is there another step? Any suggestions?

Are you by chance using Outlook 2003 with Cached Mode? It can take up to 48 hours for items to appear if you are in Cached Mode because you are actually using the Offline Address Book.

You can first verify if it is in the GAL by clicking View on the GAL from within Exchange System Manager.

If you see your group there, then rebuild the Offline Address Book by right clicking it and choosing rebuild. Give it a little time and then from your workstation download the Address Book under Tools, Send and Receive.

Jest remember that fromt he time you hit rebuild it can still take 24-48 hours. If you temporarily turn off cached mode you should see the entries there live.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Yes, I am currently using 2003 w/cache, but we also have users with 2000. I have not checked a workstation with 2000. When I unchecked cache mode it did show up. I created the dist list around 3pm yesterday, I guess I just need to be patient. Thanks for all the help.

Depending on the number of users you have it could go quicker if you force the rebuild.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark
