Missing custom properties window

Hi All
for some reason I am unable to open custom properties windows in ANY of my 30+ visio pictures. The properties are still there and can be viewed by doing shape and custom properties but the actual window wont appear. Not sure where it has gone. The box appears around the button as though the custom properties are being shown

Pleease help - I'm desperate
