Missing address dhcp command on 2514

I am trying to setup my 2514 to get an IP address from my ISP (Comcast). I plan to run the 2514 with a 2924 switch behind my cable modem and share the Internet connection within my home network. The 2514 is running IOS 12.1. I ran the mac-address command to assign the address to Ethernet1 that Comcast has in their database for my account. The ip address dhcp command does not seem to exist as seen below. I thought that the command was first introduced in 12.1. I have read that I may have to upgrade the IOS to 12.2. My 2514 has 16MB flash. I have images for "12.2.13 IP Firewall Plus IPSEC 56" and "12.2.13 IP IPX AT DEC". Does anyone know if these will run on the 2514 and do they contain the ip address dhcp command?

Go ahead upgrade those IOS will run on your 2514. The commands works with 12.1 on my 2514.

I just tried "ip dhcp" and it did not work either. When I first boot my 2514 or reload I see a couple of errors. I am wondering if the CONFIG_NEWER message is a clue as to why the "ip address dhcp" command not working. The timeout errors cause the router to hang for several minutes. The timeout errors also appear intermittently when the router is sitting idle. Has anyone ever seen these before?

You need a newer IOS for the DHCP support.

I also discovered this command doesnt work for me.

I am using 1601 routers with 12.0 IOS

Is there any other way to get around this, or do I have to get a newer IOS...

What are my options? I was going to upload a new ios, but the flash cards are read only or so it seems...

I've tried getting an ip from my ISP on another device and using the ip and mac on the 1600 but I haven't gotten it to work yet.
Will this work? Anything else I can do if changing the IOS isnt an option?

I've seen all your problems. Try changing your config reg to make the flash read\write. Another tread mention that the ISP had thier conf set to prevent you from get an IP with "ip dhcp address" so the work arround is to upgrade your IOS to 12.2.15 or higher (I maybe wrong on the version)

I'm currenly waiting on a later version IOS myself.

Well I can't access the IOS upgrade planner on cisco's site, so I don't know if there is even an IOS that will work for me with 4 megs of ram on both of the 1600s :S

I had a couple images: c1600-sy-mz.122-11T1 and c1600-sy-mz.122-12a but I cant find anything about them.

I setup a tftp server and tried copying them from 0x2101 conf register, but it warned that I had insufficient dram, though I continued anyways and made a boot system statement and saved the config, but it failed to boot the image.

Is there hope for another workaround to the ip address dhcp?
should I keep trying to get an ip from my isp with another device and use that ip and mac on the fast ethernet interface?
