Hi:

I am not sure if the following procedure is the right one for generating a missed root password in a SCO Open Server 5.0.5 system:

1. Boot the system with the emrgency boot floppy disk.
2. Mount the root floppy disk filesystem.
3. Mount the HD filesystem (/dev/hd0) into the root floppy filesystem
4. Edit the /etc/passwd (/etc/shadow) and remove the second field in the root line.
5. Restart the system from the hard disk and log in as root
with no password.

I will appreciate comments on the best way to do it.

Thanks

You are missing the tcb files.

The best way to do this depends on your version and what you have available. The faq faq58-1366 covers a lot of this.
