mirror on pagefile partition. performance?

I just started working with a new client whose Win2k server is doing software mirroring. I noticed that the partition X: that is used solely for the pagefile is also being mirrored. Wouldn't it be better (in performance) to have both disks have unmirrored partitions and page only to the disk0? I am assuming that if the server had to boot with only disk1 and X: did not have a pagefile (since the pagefile was on disk0 that is now not present) the OS would just create a new one.

Anybody have some insight on this?

I'm not sure what will happen to a Windows 2000 server is the pagefile disk fails... It would definately give you better performance place the pagefile on a non-os mirror drive...however, I'm not sure if the server would blue screen if the pagfile disk was failed. In my environment we use hardware mirroring...our page files exist on a hardware mirror. (All servers are new and performance is NOT an issue for us...) Joseph L. Poandl

I guess I'll have to set up one of my test servers like this, remove the pagefile and see if win2k will boot without it. I'll follow up when I figure it out.

Unfortunately most of my clients are small and only have entry level servers with no hardware raid. Often, asking them to invest more in their servers is not an option, so I try to do the best with what I have.
