Hello,

we are planning a migration of our existing Networker 7.1 under Windows 2000 to another server also running on W2K.

I want the server to have the same DNS name and the same IP address.

Is there a recommended sequence of necessary actions to take?

Thx in advance for your help.

It depends how you want to do this:

- If with NW, this is nothing else but the standard Disaster Recovery
as described in the book
- You may also use tools to backup and copy partitions (like Ghost)

As long as you do not change the identity, there is no issue with NW.

Hello 605,

My actual NW installation was done on a W2K "upgrade" from NT40. So it was not a clean W2K installation.
Therefore I installed e new clean W2K on a new server.

Can I do a standard NW installation and afterwards copy the already existing NSR directory from the old server to the new one?

Regards,
Malachias

If everything (host- & domain name, ip, path) is the same, yes you can do this.

BTW - on thing i forgot: if your SID will be different the you need to do a host transfer (request new auth codes).

Your best option is to document current configuration first, copy host files etc, document IP, domain and do a Full backup of the system, if i am accurate only scheduled backups generate bootstrap.
Rebuild or use New server, first shut down the old one, remove any DNS entries from Domain refering to the original server, then install Networker on the new server, do MMRECOV and follow Networkers DR guide, if you have auto changer you will have to attach it as well, otherwise, you need to Run nsrck -L7 to recover clients indexes.
If your library does not funtion right after this steps just recreate it on the New server, appying all the timer values as exist now.

There is a Legato Technical Bulletin for moving a NetWorker server. It is old but mostly still valid.
