We are in the process of migrating several hundred users that are not part of a domain to a 2000 domain. Currently when a user joins the domain there is a new default profile created for them with the domain ID on the PC. Is there any "simple" way of using the users current profile with the domain ID?

I am aware I can log in as a third user ID and copy the necessary files from one profile directory to another, but I am looking for a simpler way to perform this task?

Thanks

Have you tried copying the profile to the server and settting the users profile as roaming? This may be the same as logging in as the 3rd ID, but it may steer you in the right direction!

Cheers! jamk555

Easiest thing I can think of is to have every user manually share (as read only) their old profiles for you. Then from the comfort of your server you can then sit there and either

Create a script to automatically copy everything over to the proper directories where their roaming profiles are kept (I'm assuming your using roaming profiles), It would take up a bit of network traffic but if it's done after hours it wouldn't matter a whole lot and would maybe only take a few hours depending on the size of their profiles.

OR

Manually move them over 1 by 1.

Now that I've typed that out and re-read what you posted I see you aren't using roaming profiles. In that case I still say have them share both directories (or you do it on your end) and then create a script that will go through them one by one.
