My C drive is a 6GB IDE harddisk. I have two 9GB SCSI disks on the same box, currently drives E and G. I want to format both of them and create one 18GB partition from both of them. Then I want to migrate my C drive (which is almost full, only 420Mb left) to this new partition. My C drive boots WinXP. Can I just copy the entire C drive using "copy C:\*.* {newdrive}:\" ? Or do I need to do something like re-install everything? Thanks.

How are you going to add 9gb on one drive to the 9gb on a second drive?

If you decide to buy a new hard drive you will/should be supplied with the necessary software to copy your old drive to the new hard drive.

Or the hard drive instructions will refer you to the manufacturer's website where you can download a utility to use with your hard drive(s). I've found that recent copies of these programs require that you have at least one hard drive of that manufacturer's brand on your computer for them to work, too, where older versions of these programs didn't discriminate like that.

Does your machine support RAID0 on the SCSI interface? (which would allow you to create single 18GB partition from the 2 drives).

If you move the installation from IDE to SCSI, you'll probably need to do a repair reinstall, using the SCSI drivers (via F6 at start of install) to allow XP to access/boot from SCSI drive. Also you'll need to use some imaging software to transfer the installation.

If you do this, make sure the IDE drive is disconnected while you try to setup the installation on the SCSI (ie, immediately you've copied).
