Migrate to Exchange 2000

I currently run an NT4.0 network and am wanting to replace my Exchange 5.5 mail server with Exchange 2000. I have purchased a new server for this and have installed windows 2000 server on it. I will be introducing the new server to the network as a memeber server with no AD but with Exchange 2000.
Is there any reason why I can't run Exchange 2000 on a windows 2000 server on a Windows NT4.0 domain ?

There's a very good reason, you need Active Directory.
